The 2019 Cycling Summit – held on Thursday November 14 – was a success! See westsussexcycle.org.uk for a report.

Of course the true nature of success is in the outcome – in other words - what changes for the better. More of that later.

This from Andy Mouland at WSCC: - LCWIPs – the Districts and Boroughs are all on track to produce drafts by end of November.   A lot of work is going on right now (e.g. desire line mapping and street audits) and the intention is to use some of the remaining WSP days for business case training towards the end of the project.   WSCC had a useful meeting last week with Simon Pratt from Sustrans, who is currently re-writing the A&W LCWIP.   The next partners meeting is on the morning of 17th October.   The W&C steering group will be updated that afternoon.

A new, 3km cycle route has been completed, linking Pagham Nature Reserve with Medmerry Nature Reserve, boosting facilities for residents, visitors and wildlife enthusiasts alike. The county council’s Public Rights of Way team worked with The Manhood Peninsula Partnership on ideas to bolster tourism in the area - and found that cycling provision was under represented. From this, a £400,000 scheme was devised.

WSCC is consulting with selected interested parties on its Cycling Design Guidelines. This will be the first set of guidelines to be drawn up, owned and implemented by West Sussex. The Local Planning Authorities and the WSCF were sent the draft at end February with a return date of 31 March. The WSCF has submitted a composite comment made up of comment from each of the Cycle Forums in West Sussex.
